Discrimination or differentiation?

In South Africa, most insurance companies offer women lower rates – currently in the region of 10%. This is based on empirical data that shows a marked difference in accident rates.

“We have statistical evidence that proves that women are involved in fewer accidents than men and, in respect of motor accident repair costs, the average repair cost involved in repairing an accident damaged motor vehicle that was driven by a woman is less than one driven by a man,” says Robyn Farrell, MD of 1st for Women Insurance Brokers.

Fuel price increase? How about diesel from water?

Massachusetts biotechnology company, Joule Unlimited, claims to have invented a genetically-engineered organism that it says “simply secretes diesel fuel or ethanol wherever it finds sunlight, water and carbon dioxide”.

Blake call centre staff rewarded for great results

FNB sponsored a trip aboard the Allen Gardiner on Friday evening for Blake FNB Smart Spend staff (Shawn Lewis’ department), in recognition of their December results. The staff received the FNB Smart Spend trophy, and the evening was attended by Blake’s Chairman, Howard Blake, as well as Manogh Maharaj, Dave Holding, Odette Pearce and management from FNB, Colin Vermeulen (FNB Operations Manager) and Sean Stephan (head of collections from FNB).
